Euro 2024 Quarter Final Results

The quarter finals have finshed

But how did our predictions compare to results?

Background

We have been predicting the results for the EURO 2024 football tournament, with a target of getting 70% correct

So far in the group stages we predicted 10 of the 16 teams to qualify for the knock out stages (62%)

In the round of 16 we got 7 out of 8 correct

Results for the Quarter Finals

Here is a reminder of what we predicted for the first 2 games

We had Germany to build on their momentum and their home support, it was a close result with Spain getting a decisive goal in the 119th minute

France continued to under perform, but managed to get to penalties which they beat Portugal 5-3

For the next 2 games,

We expected England to scrape a win against Switzerland, which very much happened

We also predicted Netherlands to beat Turkey in another close game, which turned out to be true

We got 3 out of 4 correct wil the help of extra time and penalties

An incredibly close set of quarter finals with only one not going to extra time and two set of penalties (almost three!)

Our Semi Final Predictions

Spain v France, Spain have been continued to be strong, but not as much as they have been. France on the other hand have delivered the results despite not performing to expectations. We predict that France will begin to step up and play closer to their expectations, and Spain wil continue to weaken as a lower level of experience comes into play. We predict a France win

England v Netherlands, England have performed below expectations through the tournament so far, but have gradually improved, and the penalties routine looked like a team well prepared. The Netherlands have also generally performed well but gradually performed closer to expectations. We predict the England will have too much strength in depth for Netherlands (if Gareth uses them)

Which is all pointing to a classic final, lets hope so
